The World's Biggest Wellness Event Is Coming to Thailand

The 20th annual Global Wellness Summit (GWS) will take place in Phuket, Thailand from 10 to 13 November 2026. It is the first time this landmark event has been held in Southeast Asia, and it signals Thailand's growing ambition to lead the global wellness tourism industry.

The summit will be hosted at Angsana Laguna Phuket, with backing from the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Ministry of Public Health.

What Is the Global Wellness Summit?

The GWS brings together more than 600 delegates from over 30 countries, including wellness industry leaders, Fortune 500 executives, investors, policymakers, and researchers. The four-day programme covers topics ranging from wellness tourism and mental wellbeing to longevity science, wellness real estate, and beauty innovation.

For Thailand, hosting this event is more than a conference win. The government expects at least 324 million baht in direct short-term revenue, with a broader economic multiplier effect that could push wellness tourism's value past 10 billion baht by end of 2026.

Why Thailand Won the Bid

Thailand's wellness credentials are hard to ignore. The country has 61 hospitals certified by the Joint Commission International (JCI), more than 500 hospitals and clinics serving international patients, and medical costs that run 30 to 70 percent lower than in Western countries. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is targeting 125 billion baht in medical and wellness tourism revenue for 2026.

The country has also launched a new national wellness brand, "Wellness Thailand: The Land of Life," positioning itself as a top-five global wellness destination. Wellness tourism in Thailand has been growing at 36.4 percent in recent years, nearly three times the global average. TAT's broader "Healing Journey" campaign is part of the same push — read more in our Healing Journey Thailand wellness campaign guide.

What This Means for Travellers

Even if you are not attending the summit itself, the GWS coming to Phuket will have a ripple effect across the island. Hotels, spas, and wellness centres are upgrading their offerings ahead of November, and the TAT has signalled that new wellness packages and promotions will be rolled out across Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok in the second half of 2026. For the full wellness retreat landscape across Thailand right now, our best wellness retreats in Thailand 2026 guide covers spas, detox resorts, and yoga centres across all regions.

For those interested in attending, registration is open on the GWS website. Special room rates at Angsana Laguna Phuket start at 7,000 THB per night (approximately 216 USD). New delegates can request an invitation directly through the summit's official site. Planning Your Visit

November is an excellent time to visit Phuket. The monsoon season typically ends in late October, and hotel prices have not yet hit their December-January peak. Combining a GWS visit with a wellness retreat on the island makes for a strong itinerary, especially with Phuket's expanding roster of world-class spas and longevity and anti-aging retreats. For a full picture of the island, our Phuket travel guide 2026 covers neighbourhoods, beaches, and logistics.

If you are flying into the region and want to extend the trip, Koh Samui's airport is expanding its international connections — making a Phuket-to-Samui hop easy. November also coincides with the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan (24 November), which sits just a short ferry ride from Samui and makes a natural addition to a wellness-plus-nightlife itinerary.
