A Banner Year for Thai Hospitality
Thailand's hotel pipeline is booming in 2026. Several international chains are planting flags in Phuket, Koh Samui, and Krabi โ three destinations that already dominate most visitors' itineraries. The broader hotel boom across Thailand sets the context: international investors are committing serious capital to Thai hospitality. Here are three standout openings worth watching if you are planning a trip this year.
1. JW Marriott Phuket Chalong Bay Resort and Spa
Location: Northern end of Chalong Bay, Phuket โ about 10 to 15 minutes by car from Chalong Pier, the island's main jumping-off point for boats to Phi Phi and other southern islands.
The property: This is a dual-brand development. The JW Marriott side has 189 keys, split between 146 rooms and 43 private villas grouped in their own exclusive enclave on the northwest portion of the site. Expect two outdoor pools and direct beach access.
Meetings and events: Nearly 2,000 square metres of meeting and event space sit between the JW Marriott and the adjacent Courtyard by Marriott (277 keys), making it one of the largest new MICE-capable properties on the island. See the full Phuket travel guide for what else the island offers in 2026.
Opening: Q1 2026. Marriott's careers portal is already hiring for the property, a strong indicator that doors will open soon.
2. Nivata Koh Samui, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
Location: Taling-Ngam district on Koh Samui's quieter southwestern tip, far from the busier Chaweng and Lamai strips.
The property: A boutique resort with just 78 rooms, three dining outlets (including an all-day restaurant and two bars), a fitness centre, an outdoor swimming pool, and a spa. The Tapestry Collection brand focuses on independently spirited hotels, so expect a design-forward feel distinct from the typical Hilton experience. Also on the island: the ultra-private Cape Fahn Hotel Koh Samui opened earlier in 2026 on a private island.
Why it matters: This will be only the second Tapestry Collection property in Thailand, signalling Hilton's bet on the boutique-luxury segment here. Hilton is also expanding in the north with Kahavadi Chiang Rai, a Curio Collection river retreat.
Opening: June 2026. Getting there is now easier than ever โ Koh Samui airport is expanding its international connections.
3. Grand Mercure Krabi Ao Nang
Location: Ao Nang, Krabi โ the region's main tourist hub and gateway to Railay Beach, the Four Islands, and Hong Island.
The property: Details are still emerging, but the Grand Mercure brand from Accor typically targets the upscale tier with locally inspired design and F&B concepts. Ao Nang has long been dominated by mid-range accommodation, so a branded upscale option fills a genuine gap. Read the full Krabi travel guide for beaches, day trips, and where to stay right now.
Opening: Scheduled for 2026; exact quarter to be confirmed.
What This Means for Travellers
More branded competition in Phuket, Koh Samui, and Krabi usually translates to better introductory rates and promotions. If you are flexible on dates, the months right after a resort opens often deliver the best value as properties work to build reviews and occupancy. Sign up for each chain's loyalty programme before booking โ points earned on an opening-period stay can fund future nights elsewhere in Thailand.
These three are far from the only new openings: the Langham Custom House Bangkok and Andaz One Bangkok are raising the bar in the capital, while Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort is delivering barefoot luxury in the islands.
