About Ban Krut
Ban Krut is the antidote to overdeveloped Thai beach towns. Stretched along approximately 8 kilometers of Gulf of Thailand coastline in the Bang Saphan district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, this fishing village delivers what travel brochures promise but rarely deliver: wide white sand lined with coconut palms, warm emerald water, and almost no one on the beach — even on weekends. The town's name derives from the bergamot oranges (มะกรูด, má grùut) that once grew abundantly in the area. The beach runs from a fishing village at the foot of Thong Chai Mountain — topped with the dramatic Wat Tang Sai temple and its 9 pagodas built in 1996 to commemorate King Bhumibol's 50th anniversary — to a quieter stretch of coast to the south. The local fishing community keeps seafood absurdly fresh and cheap. Ban Krut has its own train station with direct connections from Bangkok's Krungthep Apiwat Central Station (Special Express #43, departing 07:30, arriving just after midday).

Hidden Gems
Places that make Ban Krut feel more layered once you step outside the obvious first-timer circuit.
Raan Pa Jum (Aunt Jum's Restaurant)
At the very end of Ban Krut Beach, past where the road ends and the fishing boats are parked on the sand, there's a simple restaurant run by a fisherwoman who catches the food herself. A massive bowl of Tom Yum seafood soup — packed with shrimp, squid, fish, and fish roe — costs 100 THB. You can literally swim in the sea while she prepares your meal.
How to find: Ride to the very end of Ban Krut Beach road, past all the resorts. You'll see fishing boats and a small covered eating area.
Best time: Lunchtime — the catch is freshest and the light on the water is beautiful.
Evening squid boats
After dark, the fishing boats head out with bright green lights to attract squid. Watching them dot the horizon from the beach at night — cold beer in hand, sand between your toes — is one of those simple moments that makes you understand why people fall in love with this place.
How to find: Any point along Ban Krut Beach after 7 PM. Visible from the Sunday market area.
Best time: After sunset, any night of the week.
Authentic Experiences
Experiences that say more about how Ban Krut actually works than a standard checklist of sights.
Cook your own seafood at Moo Kata
For Thai people, going to a restaurant where you cook your own food isn't strange — it's an event. Choosing fresh crab and prawns, firing up the charcoal, and sitting under a tree while everything sizzles is somewhere between camping and dining. Solo or with friends, it's one of those experiences that feels uniquely Thai.
How to Participate
Just show up at the Moo Kata place near the beach. Choose your seafood from the display, grab a table, and they'll bring the charcoal grill.

Ban Krut Beach
Kilometers of wide white sand backed by coconut palms. The water turns emerald blue from March to May. Even on weekends you can walk for 20 minutes and see maybe five other people. No jet skis, no beach vendors, no noise — just waves.

The 350 Baht Seafood Feast
270 THB buffet + 80 THB grill grateFor 350 THB ($10) you get a charcoal-fired Moo Kata grill loaded with crab, scallops, large prawns with eggs, glass noodles, pork, and vegetables. You cook it yourself under a tamarind tree while the evening breeze rolls in from the Gulf. The charcoal can't be controlled — when it burns out you pay a bit extra for more — but the smoky flavor it gives the seafood is worth it.
Dish: Moo Kata (Thai BBQ) with seafood
Where to find: The Moo Kata spot near central Ban Krut Beach — look for the charcoal grills and the big tamarind tree

A tighter shortlist for meals that actually feel distinct in Ban Krut, from local staples to stronger special-occasion picks.
Moo Kata Seafood BBQ (by the tamarind tree)
Charcoal-fired Thai barbecue where you pick your own fresh seafood and grill it at your table under a tamarind tree. Crab, scallops, large prawns with eggs, glass noodles, vegetables, and pork — all for 270 THB. The charcoal flavor makes everything taste better than gas-grilled alternatives.
Raan Pa Jum (Aunt Jum's)

Sunday Market Street Food

Recommended Hotels
Hotels that make sense for different Ban Krut stays, not just a pile of names and nightly rates.
Sisina Resort
Best budget option in Ban Krut. Rooms are 300 meters from the beach (4-minute walk) surrounded by palm trees and tropical gardens. Large rooms with soft beds that feel like they should cost 1,200–1,500 THB. Multi-night discounts available (800 THB for 4+ nights).
Ratchawadee Ban Krut Resort
Direct beachfront bungalows among coconut palms — the postcard version of Thailand. New access road recently built. The classic paradise image: wake up, walk 10 steps, you're on white sand with blue water in front of you.

What Locals Want You to Know
Hua Hin locals consider Ban Krut their personal secret. They actively try to keep it under the radar to prevent overdevelopment.
The 4-minute walk from budget hotels to the beach isn't a downside — it means you hear birds and wind through palm trees instead of road noise.
The fishermen at the end of the beach sometimes sell their catch directly. If you're staying somewhere with a kitchen, ask what they have — you'll pay wholesale prices.
Travel Tips
Quick planning notes that make Ban Krut easier to handle on the ground.
- Rent a scooter (200–300 THB/day) — the town is spread along a single road and walking everywhere isn't practical.1
- The Sunday market is the best day to visit — arrive by 4 PM for the best selection before it gets packed at 5 PM.2
- Bring cash — most places in Ban Krut don't accept cards. There are ATMs near the main intersection.3
