Chiang Rai White Temple Entrance Fee Doubles to 200 Baht in 2026
White Temple Fee Now 200 Baht
As of January 1, 2026, the entrance fee at Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple, has doubled from 100 to 200 baht for foreign adult visitors. Thai nationals, children under 120 centimeters tall and visitors over 70 years old still enter for free.
At roughly 5 USD, the fee remains modest by international standards, and the money goes directly toward the ongoing construction of the temple complex, which artist Chalermchai Kositpipat began in 1997 and expects to complete around 2070.
What Makes the White Temple Special
Unlike ancient Thai temples, the White Temple is a contemporary art installation designed by national artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. The gleaming white facade symbolizes the purity of the Buddha, while mirrored glass embedded in the plaster reflects sunlight to represent wisdom.
The approach to the main hall crosses the Bridge of the Cycle of Rebirth, flanked by hundreds of outstretched hands reaching up from below. Inside the ordination hall, murals blend traditional Buddhist themes with modern pop culture references, making this one of Chiang Rai's top attractions and Thailand's most photographed buildings.
The Blue Temple Is Still Free
Just 15 minutes away by car, Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple, offers an equally striking experience at no cost. Open daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, its deep blue interior is covered in vivid murals and centered around a large white Buddha statue. It draws fewer crowds than the White Temple, making it easier to explore and photograph at your own pace.
