Anantara Siam Bangkok Nears Completion of Its USD 50 Million Transformation

A Bangkok Icon Gets Its Biggest Upgrade in Four Decades

Anantara Siam Bangkok, one of the Thai capital's most storied luxury hotels, is well into a USD 50 million (THB 1.6 billion) renovation — the most significant overhaul since the property first opened in 1983. The transformation is being carried out in two phases, with full completion expected by late 2026.

Originally designed by acclaimed architect George Wimberley, the hotel on Rajadamri Road has long been considered one of Asia's defining luxury addresses, known for its hand-painted murals, garden courtyards and the legendary Spice Market restaurant.

What Is Changing

Phase One (completed late 2025)

The first wave of work focused on the Montathip and Kannika Court guest rooms and suites, the Garden Terrace Rooms, the Kasara Lounge, the swimming pool and terrace, the fitness centre and several ground-floor meeting rooms. These areas have already reopened with refreshed interiors that blend the hotel's Thai heritage with a cleaner, more contemporary design language.

Phase Two (May to September 2026)

The second and more ambitious phase is now underway. It covers the Garden Pool Villas, Parichart Court guest rooms, the grand lobby, the ballroom and all remaining event spaces. Most notably, six brand-new Garden Suites will be introduced — each with private plunge pools, floor-to-ceiling windows and lush tropical landscaping. These suites are designed to deliver a resort-style experience in the centre of Bangkok.

The iconic Spice Market restaurant, one of Bangkok's longest-running Thai fine dining venues, will also receive a complete redesign while retaining the spirit of the original.

Sustainability Focus

Minor Hotels, which operates the Anantara brand, has stated that the renovation incorporates energy-efficient building systems and green materials throughout. The new Garden Suites will feature eco-conscious landscaping with native plants suited to Bangkok's tropical climate, reducing both water usage and maintenance needs.

What It Means for Travellers

During phase two (May through September 2026), some facilities will be temporarily closed or operating at reduced capacity. If you are planning a stay during this period, it is worth checking directly with the hotel about which areas are accessible.

For travellers booking from late 2026 onward, the fully renovated Anantara Siam will offer something rare in Bangkok's luxury market: a heritage property with the feel of a city resort, complete with private-pool suites that most visitors would only expect to find at a beach destination. Given the hotel's prime Rajadamri location — walkable to Siam Paragon, Central World and the BTS — the refreshed product should compete strongly with Bangkok's wave of new luxury openings.
