From your first water bottle to a late-night toastie
Choose by need, not hype
Water, electrolytes, fruit, tissues and one simple meal for today.
Check the seal, date and cold chain.
Dry snacks, a poncho and compact toiletries for a train, bus or excursion.
Only buy what you will carry and use.
SIM cards, phone top-ups, payments and alcohol need an extra check.
Keep your passport and some Thai baht available.

Your first stop
After arrival, buy enough for one evening and the next morning. A heavy multi-day supply is inconvenient before you know your hotel, breakfast options and neighbourhood.
Useful after a hot transfer. Sip steadily; a sports drink is not a substitute for meals or medical advice.
Match the portion to your next travel hour. Do not leave chilled fruit unrefrigerated for a long journey.
Small, immediately useful and easy to replace. During severe weather, follow official storm and flood warnings as well.
Travel sizes work as backup. Check the active ingredient, directions and suitability for your skin or children.
Food & drink
Fast and warmPackaged sandwiches can be heated at the counter. Chilled shelves may also hold rice dishes, noodles, sausages and eggs. This is convenient after a late arrival, but not automatically fresher or cheaper than local cooked food.
Taste without wasteSeaweed, local-flavour crisps, small cakes, milk drinks and chilled teas are easy to sample. Pick one or two unfamiliar products, check the serving size and use camera translation for the complete ingredient panel.
A calmer startYoghurt, milk, eggs, fruit, bread, coffee and water make a simple breakfast. Combine two small components rather than relying only on a sweet drink.
The simple rule
If it must be fast, packaged and predictable, 7-Eleven works well. If you have time and want food that is fresh, local or adjustable, choose a market, food court or restaurant and use the store for water or a small extra. Share unfamiliar snacks and avoid buying ten products just for a video.
Four real travel moments
After landing
Buy water, something easy to digest and one uncomplicated meal if restaurants are closed. Do not stock several days of food before you know the hotel fridge, breakfast and local area. Only heat what you will eat immediately.
Transport day
Choose by shelf life, smell and ease of eating. Water, dry crackers and a sealed snack travel better than a hot rice meal sitting in your bag for hours. Keep your phone and voucher accessible.
Island & beach
A small island branch can be useful for water, tissues, sunscreen or a poncho, but stock and price may differ from Bangkok. Follow boat-operator rules on luggage and single-use plastic.
Diet & allergy
A vegetable photo does not make a meal vegetarian, and automatic translation can miss compound ingredients or cross-contact. For a severe allergy, carry a Thai allergy card and choose food whose ingredients can be discussed clearly.
Price orientation
| Product | Typical range | Why it varies |
|---|---|---|
| Small bottle of water | about ฿7–20 | Brand, volume and chilled placement affect the price. |
| Soft drink or tea | about ฿15–45 | Imports, bottle size and promotions create wide variation. |
| Toastie or sandwich | about ฿25–55 | Filling and size vary; counter heating is generally part of the service. |
| Chilled rice meal | about ฿35–75 | Simple portions cost less than larger or premium versions. |
| Bag of local snacks | about ฿10–45 | Mini packs and promotions make per-kilo comparison difficult. |
| Coffee or iced drink | about ฿25–65 | Size, recipe and store format influence the final price. |
| Travel-size toiletries | about ฿15–120 | Active ingredient, volume and brand matter more than price alone. |
Editorial orientation checked in July 2026, not a price guarantee. Branch, island, station location, pack size and temporary promotions can change the amount.
More than groceries

Place the chilled item at the checkout and make clear that you want it heated. Keep the packaging until you have checked the item.
Have the provider and phone number ready. Confirm the number shown on screen or receipt before leaving.
Selected branches sell tourist SIMs. Passport registration and correct activation are required; compare support with an official carrier shop or eSIM.
The network supports many bills and services, but a foreign visitor cannot use every local function. Bring the correct barcode or reference.
Card acceptance and transaction thresholds can vary by branch, network or outage. Thai QR payments may not be available to tourists.
Digital services exist but may require a local account, Thai number, address or supported payment method. Treat them as optional.

Open does not mean unrestricted
Many branches trade around the clock, but not every store must open 24 hours and regulated products cannot be sold at every hour. Check the branch and respect a checkout refusal.
Cities have many long-hours or 24-hour branches. A building, holiday, local decision or individual location may create exceptions.
Since 29 May 2026, licensed retailers may generally sell alcohol continuously from 11:00 to 24:00. Separate legal conditions can still apply by venue and location.
Religious holidays, elections or temporary decisions can add restrictions. Bring identification and follow the checkout system and staff instruction.
Buy local. Pack deliberately.
After arrival
Low-risk basics that are easy to match to the day ahead.
Useful emergency sizes; specialist products still belong at a pharmacy or outdoor shop.
Buy only what you can keep cold and consume soon.
Taste one or two products before buying gifts in quantity.
Before departure
These products solve different problems from a convenience store: plug compatibility, phone backup and carrying comfort. Links use our central Amazon route and OneLink strategy.

Inside the store
Useful when pack size, promotion or checkout price is unclear. Ask before paying.
Camera translation helps, but serious allergies require more than automated recognition.
Especially useful for telecom, a service payment or several similar-looking products.
A larger branch may stock more; a supermarket, market or pharmacy may fit the need better.
Real search questions
The network combines dense coverage, long opening hours, ready-to-eat food, daily essentials and services such as telecom and Counter Service. CP ALL reported 15,595 Thai 7-Eleven stores at 30 June 2025; that is our latest verified official snapshot, not a claimed live count for 2026.
CP ALL reported 15,595 stores in Thailand at 30 June 2025. Store openings and closures continue, so use that date-stamped official figure instead of treating an undated online total as live.
Many small items are affordable, but 7-Eleven is not automatically cheapest per litre, kilogram or large pack. You also pay for location, cooling and convenience. Compare bigger purchases with supermarkets and markets.
A practical first basket is water, a simple breakfast or heated meal, fruit, tissues and one small travel essential. For fun, add one unfamiliar Thai snack or drink after checking the ingredients and portion size.
Selected Thai branches sell SIM cards, but passport registration and correct activation are required. Compare the package, support and identity process with an official carrier shop or a pre-arranged eSIM; a product on a shelf does not prove that a visitor can complete activation there.
Pay at the checkout with a method accepted by that branch. Foreign card acceptance and transaction conditions can vary, and Thai QR wallets may require a local account. Check the amount before confirming and carry some Thai baht as a backup.
Under the national update effective 29 May 2026, licensed retailers may generally sell alcohol from 11:00 until 24:00. The checkout must still follow temporary election, religious-day or official restrictions, and separate legal conditions can apply by venue and location.
The 29 May 2026 update made 11:00–24:00 the general permitted sales window and removed the old regular 14:00–17:00 gap. The legal drinking age remains 20, sales can be restricted on specified days, and consumption remains prohibited in certain public places. Follow the store checkout and current official notices.
Thai branches commonly heat packaged sandwiches and selected ready meals intended for that service. Put the item at the checkout, confirm that you want it heated and check ingredients before heating if you have dietary restrictions. Availability still depends on the product and branch.
Many branches in cities operate long hours or 24 hours, but opening time is set by the individual location. Check the current branch listing or door sign. A store being open does not mean regulated products can be sold at every hour.
