What Is Exercise Cope Tiger?

Exercise Cope Tiger is one of Southeast Asia's longest-running multilateral military air exercises. The 32nd edition kicked off on 15 March 2026 and runs until 27 March at Korat Air Base and Chandy Range in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand.

Three nations participate: the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the United States Air Force (USAF). Singapore alone deployed 30 aircraft, 12 ground-based air defence systems and more than 700 personnel for this year's exercise. What Happens During the Exercise?

Participants engage in large-scale air combat missions designed to simulate realistic combat scenarios. RSAF and RTAF fighter aircraft fly the main field training sorties while the USAF contributes to the ground programme and subject-matter expert exchanges. The goal is to sharpen interoperability, tactical coordination and professional competencies across all three air forces.

Beyond military drills, the exercise includes a two-day joint socio-civic programme. Servicemembers visit local communities and schools near Korat Air Base, reinforcing ties between the armed forces and the surrounding Isan region. Singapore's Chief of Air Force, Major-General Kelvin Fan, attended the closing ceremony on 27 March 2026.

Why Korat?

Korat Air Base, officially known as Wing 1, has hosted Cope Tiger for decades. Located roughly 250 kilometres northeast of Bangkok, the base sits near the city of Nakhon Ratchasima — Thailand's gateway to Isan. The province offers travellers Khao Yai National Park, Phimai Historical Park and some of the best Isan cuisine in the country.

What It Means for Travellers
