Michelin Guide Thailand 2026: Sühring Earns Third Star in Historic First
Sühring Makes History as Thailand's Second Three-Star Restaurant
The Michelin Guide Thailand 2026 has been released, and it is the most significant edition yet. German twin chefs Thomas and Mathias Sühring saw their Bangkok restaurant Sühring elevated to three Michelin stars — making it only the second restaurant in Thailand to achieve that distinction, after Le Du received the honour in 2024.
Sühring first appeared in the inaugural 2018 Thailand edition with one star, earned its second star the following year, and held that rating for seven consecutive years before this historic promotion.
Ten New Stars Across Thailand
The 2026 edition features 10 newly starred restaurants, bringing the total to an impressive lineup:
- 2 Three-Star restaurants (Sühring is the new addition)
- 8 Two-Star restaurants (with new promotions including Anne-Sophie Pic at Le Normandie and INDDEE)
- 33 One-Star restaurants (including newcomers Bo.lan, Cannubi by Umberto Bombana, etcha, and Gaggan's return)
- 137 Bib Gourmand venues (13 newcomers) — see also our roundup of new Bib Gourmand entries for 2026
- 288 Michelin Selected restaurants
That is 468 dining venues in total — a record for the Thailand edition.
Notable New Entries
Anne-Sophie Pic at Le Normandie earned its second star for contemporary French cuisine, with Chef Pic collaborating with Japanese Head Chef Tamaki Kobayashi on a menu featuring her signature lobster dish and the Voyage tasting menu.
INDDEE, a modern Indian restaurant, also received its second star for a roughly 10-course set menu that takes diners on a journey across India's culinary landscape.
At the one-star level, Gaggan — the legendary progressive Indian restaurant that previously held two stars under its former iteration — returns to the guide under chef Gaggan Anand's new concept. Street Food Still Thrives
Bangkok remains one of the few cities where Michelin inspectors actively evaluate street food. The legendary Raan Jay Fai retains her one Michelin star, continuing to draw food lovers to her famous crab omelette and yellow curry prawns. For a deeper dive into Bangkok's street food scene, from hawker stalls to night markets, our beginner's guide covers where to start.
Most of Bangkok's celebrated street food stalls appear in the Bib Gourmand category, which recognises great food at moderate prices. The 13 new Bib Gourmand entries for 2026 show that Thailand's affordable dining scene continues to evolve. The Banthat Thong Road food street and the Bangkok Lumpini hawker centre are both excellent starting points for budget-friendly bites in the capital.
What This Means for Visitors
Thailand's growing Michelin presence reflects a dining scene that spans every budget. You can eat a Michelin-recognised plate of pad thai for under 100 baht, then splurge on a three-star tasting menu — sometimes within the same neighbourhood. For travellers planning a food-focused trip, the 2026 guide covers restaurants in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Phang-Nga, Krabi, Koh Samui, Ayutthaya, and the Northeastern Isan region. The geographic spread means great dining is no longer limited to the capital.
If you want to experience the starred restaurants hands-on, consider combining your trip with a cooking class in Bangkok or the acclaimed Blue Elephant cooking school. Chiang Mai has its own strong culinary identity — the Thai cooking classes in Chiang Mai are a perennial favourite. And if the Michelin news has you curious about Bangkok's wider nightlife and dining ecosystem, the new rooftop bars opening in 2026 are worth adding to your list alongside the starred restaurants.
