Visama Explorer Nan: Thailand's New Eco-Luxury Glamping Camp in the Mountains

A New Kind of Stay in Northern Thailand

If you have been looking for a reason to visit Nan province, this might be it. Visama Explorer Nan, an eco-luxury tented camp set in a remote mountain landscape in northern Thailand, officially opened its doors to guests on 23 February 2026. It is the kind of place that puts nature first without asking you to rough it.

The camp is the latest project by VHG Hospitality Asia, a group that builds its properties around what it calls the 4Cs of regenerative travel: conservation, community, culture and responsible commerce.

The Tents and the Setting

Visama Explorer Nan features eight spacious safari-style tented suites. Each tent covers 36 square metres of indoor space with an additional 12 square metre covered veranda. Inside you will find air conditioning, plush bedding and an ensuite bathroom. Two room categories are available: Mountain View and Creek View, both offering a private deck where you can take in the surrounding hills and forest.

The camp sits about 30 minutes north of Bo Kluea district, surrounded by the mountains and river valleys that make Nan one of northern Thailand's most scenic but least-visited provinces. If you enjoy this style of accommodation, also check out Khao Sok's floating bungalows or the eco-luxury Kaia tented resort on Koh Phangan for more glamping inspiration in Thailand.

What to Do There

This is not a resort where you park yourself by a pool. Activities are built around the local landscape and community. Guests can join cycling excursions through the countryside, visit local temples and villages, or take part in tree planting programmes. The camp also arranges cultural workshops that connect visitors with Nan's heritage and traditions. For those who want to go even further, there are also excellent wildlife conservation volunteering programmes across Thailand.

Getting There

Nan is easier to reach than most people expect. AirAsia operates two daily flights and Nok Air runs one daily flight from Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) in Bangkok to Nan Airport. From the airport, the camp is roughly a two-hour drive north. Check our guide to the best time to visit Thailand to plan your trip around the dry season (November to April) for the best mountain weather.

Pricing

For stays between 1 March and 31 October 2026, the camp is running a "Tent & Taste" opening promotion for bookings of two nights or more. Rates start at 6,970 THB (approximately 220 USD) per night, including dinner and breakfast for two guests. That is a competitive price for an eco-luxury tented camp, especially one that includes meals. If you are also visiting Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai on the same trip, consider adding Nan as a northern loop extension β€” you can read our northern Thailand temples walking trail guide for more inspiration. Is It Worth the Trip?

Nan remains one of Thailand's most underrated provinces. It has mountain scenery, quiet roads, ancient temples and almost no mass tourism. Visama Explorer Nan gives travellers a comfortable and responsible way to experience this part of the country, and the opening promotion makes it an especially good time to go. For those planning a longer stay, the digital nomad Thailand guide covers visa options and the best cities to base yourself. You can also explore more responsible tourism destinations across Thailand if the ethos of this camp appeals to you.
