The Gem Market on Si Chan Road is unlike anything I have encountered elsewhere in Thailand. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the narrow street and its surrounding lanes transform into an open-air gemstone trading floor where dealers spread rubies, sapphires, and semi-precious stones on folding tables, examine them under loupes, and negotiate in a babel of Thai, Khmer, Burmese, and English.
