This is a working Thai city where the culture is unselfconscious and the hospitality unforced. At a local bar called Living Room on Prachasamosorn Road, I fell into conversation with a group of university lecturers who insisted on buying me lao khao (rice whiskey) and teaching me Isaan drinking songs.
